“When Owen Painted the Sky”
Join lecturer Bob Kerr, BA in Journalism, Astronomical League, Observing Programs Administrator, as he discusses painter D. Owen Stephens. Fifteen years ago an extraordinary astronomical painting caught Mr. Kerr’s eye in a library book, launching him into a quest to learn about the visionary artist. He will present how a sequence of discoveries resulted in a journey of fascination, enlightenment and admiration. He has recently published an article “The Artist And the Eclipse” (Reflector, 2022, vol. 74, no.2, p. 18-21) which describes Owen’s work during the scientific study of the 1937 eclipse of the sun in Peru.
