Daniel Owen Stephens, son of Alice and Charles Stephens, displayed a passion for astronomy starting in his childhood. It continued through his teenage years, when his parents created an observatory above the octagonal stairway at Thunderbird Lodge, and eventually into his adult career. Initially, he studied to become a professional astronomer, but ultimately merged his astronomical insight into the translation of the visible night sky into art. The display, containing his art and literature, starts in his imaginative youth and ends with his final project, astronomical paintings for the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
