Howell Lewis Shay, known for being the arbiter of the final design for the Philadelphia Museum of Art and his many city skyscrapers, purchased 4 acres of land in Rose Valley. While living with his family in a Price home on Porter Lane, he designed and constructed “his dream house”, Glen Castle. The French Normandy country estate, finished in 1927, is tucked into the furthest portion of the property to take advantage of the sweeping rear lawn down to Rose Valley Road. According to Bets Shay Conron, Shay’s daughter, Shay directed the masons on the exact placement of every single stone.

Entrance to the house is from Porter Lane. As usual there will be light fare including assorted summer salads, and desserts.  Beverages include wine, beer, cider, ice tea and lemonade.
