SUMMARY:Faces of Egypt: Documenting the Discovery of King Tutankamen's Tomb
DESCRIPTION:“Faces of Egypt”\nDocumenting the Discovery of King Tutankamen’s Tomb\nPastels by Howard Freemont Stratton\, Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art\nOpens: Saturday\, September 23\, 2023; Closes Sunday\, December 31\, 2024 \nFree with admission to the Musuem. \nHoward Freemont Stratton\, one of the original stockholders in the community of Rose Valley\, spent time at the Tutankamen tomb site in 1925-1926.  While there he chose to make pastel drawings of the native Egyptian peasant to show their qualities of dignity and self-respect.  the use of pastel as the most suitable medium for interpreting the qualities of objects and atmosphere in the dry region around the Nile allowed the rendering of its colorfulness without crudity.  The signatures on Mr. Stratton’s sketches are made in Egyptian hieroglyphics.  18 pastels will be exhibited. \n\nDonations can be made online or at the door.  Click here to donate online. \n

SUMMARY:Members Only Open House
DESCRIPTION:“Members Only Open House”\nHome of Megan Hicks and Jack Abgott\, the “Story” house\n3 Rose Valley Road\, Media\, PA 19063\nSunday\, June 23\, 2024\, 5-8pm\nDonation: $25 per person (Members may invite one guest to join them for the same fee) \nMegan Hicks and Jack Abgott are graciously opening their home and grounds for viewing by our members. In 1954\, H. Mather Lippincott designed this home for his family. The second (current) owners of the home have never substantially altered the original design. It is truly mid-century; exhibiting the modernist qualities of clean lines\, volumetric geometries\, a horizontal emphasis\, open plan\, and the absence of ornamentation tempered by the generous use of natural materials and light\, as well as a nearly seamless embedment of the home in its landscape. Like many houses designed by architects for themselves\, budget was an issue and experimentation was rampant. Instead of walnut\, we have poplar and Masonite. Instead of conventional heating the house boasts a rather unique forced air radiant floor system. \nAs usual there will be light fare including tea or slider sandwiches\, assorted summer salads\, and desserts served.  Beverages include wine\, beer\, cider\, ice tea and lemonade.   Information on the house and it’s design elements will be available.  Jack\, whose professional interests involve historic restoration\, will be happy to answer any questions. \nRegister Now!\nReservations required: call 484-444-2961 (leave a message)\nPayment can be made online or at the door. Click here to register online.\nParking will be along Hilltop Road. \n
