Owen Stephens”\nAn Exhibit of Art\, Artifacts\, and Memorabilia.\nOpens June 25\, 2022 \ncurated by\nRyan Berley\, Curator\, RVMHS\nMargaret Dee\, RVMHS Board member and cataloger of Starr/Stephens Collection\nSue Keilbaugh\, RVMHS Board member and cataloger of Starr/Stephens Collection\n\nSaturday\, June 25\, 2022 through August 30\, 2023 \nDaniel Owen Stephens\, son of Alice and Charles Stephens\, displayed a passion for astronomy starting in his childhood.  It continued through his teenage years\, when his parents created an observatory above the octagonal stairway at Thunderbird Lodge\, and eventually into his adult career.  Initially\, he studied to become a professional astronomer\, but ultimately merged his astronomical insight into the translation of the visible night sky into art.  The display\, containing his art and literature\, starts in his imaginative youth and ends with his final project\, astronomical paintings for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. \nFree with Museum admission \nDonations can be made online or at the door. SUMMARY:Pre-Raphaelite Tours
DESCRIPTION:“Three Pre-Raphaelite Tours at the Delaware Art Museum”\nForgotten Pre-Raphaelites\, A Marriage of Arts & Crafts: Evelyn & William De Morgan\, and the British Pre-Raphaelites\nThe “Forgotten Pre-Raphaelites” exhibit brings together over forty works by overlooked artists affiliated with the Pre-Raphaelite circle\, including art by women and the American Pre-Raphaelites.  Arts & Crafts pottery maker William De Morgan (1839-1917) and Pre-Raphaelite painter Eveyln De Morgan (1855-1919)\, a power couple\, who encouraged one another’s  creative pursuits and engaged in the social issues of their day\, are the subject of the second tour.  The final exhibit focuses on Dante Gabriel Rossetti and six other British artists and writers\, including John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt\, who formed the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.  They showed a disdain for the established art institutions of the day\, in particular the Royal Academy. \nThursday\, January 19\, 2023\n10:00 am – 2:00 pm Delaware Art Museum\, Wilmington\, DE 19806\nArrive by 9:45 am \n$50 per person (members $45)\nReservations required by  January 12\, 2023\nSign up online at rosevalleymuseum.org; by email at programs@rosevalleymuseum.org; or by phone 484-44-2961 (leave a message). \nTours and lunch are included.  Transportation is on your own (carpooling suggested). \nProof of vaccination and masks as determined by PA Guidelines and the locations. \nRegister Now!\nReservations required by January 12\, 2023: email at programs@rosevalleymuseum.org\, by phone at 484-444-2961 (leave a message) or Click here to register online.
