Owen Stephens”\nAn Exhibit of Art\, Artifacts\, and Memorabilia.\nOpens June 25\, 2022 \ncurated by\nRyan Berley\, Curator\, RVMHS\nMargaret Dee\, RVMHS Board member and cataloger of Starr/Stephens Collection\nSue Keilbaugh\, RVMHS Board member and cataloger of Starr/Stephens Collection\n\nSaturday\, June 25\, 2022 through August 30\, 2023 \nDaniel Owen Stephens\, son of Alice and Charles Stephens\, displayed a passion for astronomy starting in his childhood.  It continued through his teenage years\, when his parents created an observatory above the octagonal stairway at Thunderbird Lodge\, and eventually into his adult career.  Initially\, he studied to become a professional astronomer\, but ultimately merged his astronomical insight into the translation of the visible night sky into art.  The display\, containing his art and literature\, starts in his imaginative youth and ends with his final project\, astronomical paintings for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. \nFree with Museum admission \nDonations can be made online or at the door. SUMMARY:Rose Valley Museum Benefit Auction of Art & Antiques
DESCRIPTION:“Rose Valley Museum Benefit Auction of Art & Antiques”\nThe Rose Valley Museum @ Thunderbird Lodge is hosting a virtual auction on Thursday\, Nov. 3\, of Victorian\, Arts & Crafts and mid-century modern objects\, over 400 lots. The proceeds will benefit the museum’s acquisition fund and be used to defray the cost of two recently-procured Samuel Yellin chandeliers and furnishings that decorated Thunderbird Lodge in the early 1900’s. \nItems range from those which may be available for $50 to those that will sell in the thousands.”  The furniture includes an 18th century blanket chest with intricate carvings and hand-wrought hardware\, a 19th century tiger maple table made in New York state and a Stickley bed. They are complemented by Roseville and Arts and Crafts pottery\, ceramics\, lamps\, stained glass and Victorian braided hair ornaments\, an eclectic collection. \nStarting at 10am on Thursday\, November 3rd it will be conducted by Briggs Auction Inc. and Live Auctioneers. DESCRIPTION:“Frank Furness: Architect Of The Industrial Age”\nBeginning Modern at the right time In The Right Place\nSpeaker for the evening will be James Tevebaugh\, AIA\, President\, Friends of the Furness Railroad District.  He will discuss Frank Furness and his work for the railroad.  Railroad development in the late 1800s provides an excellent description of the transition from Victorian to Modern design during the Industrial Era.  Furness designed 200 projects for the Reading\, the B&O and the Pennsylvania railroads; the three largest US corporations at the time.  The work of Will Price was a continuation of the Furness influence.\nSunday\, November 20\, 2022\, 4pm\nLecture followed by small reception\n$20 per person ($15 members) \nNote change of location: Grace Rotzel Center at The School in Rose Valley. \nRegister Now!\nReservations required: call 484-444-2961\nPayment can be made online or at the door.
