DESCRIPTION:“When Owen Painted the Sky”\nJoin lecturer Bob Kerr\, BA in Journalism\, Astronomical League\, Observing Programs Administrator\, as he discusses painter D. Owen Stephens.  Fifteen years ago an extraordinary astronomical painting caught Mr. Kerr’s eye in a library book\, launching him into a quest to learn about the visionary artist.  He will present how a sequence of discoveries resulted in a journey of fascination\, enlightenment and admiration.  He has recently published an article “The Artist And the Eclipse” (Reflector\, 2022\, vol. 74\, no.2\, p. 18-21) which describes Owen’s work during the scientific study of the 1937 eclipse of the sun in Peru. \nWednesday\, May 18\, 2022\, 7pm (EST)\nThis is a Zoom presentation.  Online reservations will stop at 3pm on May 18th.  The lecture will be recorded for future viewing. \nThe link will be sent the afternoon of May 18th\, if not before.  If you do not receive the link by 4pm on May 18th please contact programs@rosevalleymuseum.org to have the link resent.  Be advised that filters on some computers may divert emails to your junk or spam folders\, so please check them. \nCost: $15 ($10 members)\nPayment can be made directly online. Owen Stephens”\nAn Exhibit of Art\, Artifacts\, and Memorabilia.\nOpens June 25\, 2022 \ncurated by\nRyan Berley\, Curator\, RVMHS\nMargaret Dee\, RVMHS Board member and cataloger of Starr/Stephens Collection\nSue Keilbaugh\, RVMHS Board member and cataloger of Starr/Stephens Collection\n\nSaturday\, June 25\, 2022 through August 30\, 2023 \nDaniel Owen Stephens\, son of Alice and Charles Stephens\, displayed a passion for astronomy starting in his childhood.  It continued through his teenage years\, when his parents created an observatory above the octagonal stairway at Thunderbird Lodge\, and eventually into his adult career.  Initially\, he studied to become a professional astronomer\, but ultimately merged his astronomical insight into the translation of the visible night sky into art.  The display\, containing his art and literature\, starts in his imaginative youth and ends with his final project\, astronomical paintings for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. \nFree with Museum admission \nDonations can be made online or at the door.
