SUMMARY:The Rossettis: Delaware Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:“The Rossettis Exhibit: Delaware Art Museum”\nThe Museum has arranged a guided tour of The Rossettis Exhibit.\nRevolution\, partnership\, love. The Rossettis led a progressive counterculture\, drawing on the past to reinvent art for their fast-changing modern world. The work of Pre-Raphaelite founder Dante Gabriel Rossetti\, alongside that of his wife\, artist Elizabeth Siddal\, and his siblings\, writers Christina and William Michael Rossetti\, are the subject of this major international exhibition organized in partnership with Tate Britain.  After the tour you may enjoy the rest of the Museum including other exhibits such as: \nBritish Pre-Raphaelites (Permanent Collection): \nIn 1848\, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and six other British artists and writers\, including John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt\, formed the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (PRB). They shared a disdain for the established art institutions of the day\, in particular the Royal Academy. John Ruskin supported the Pre-Raphaelites. The exhibit includes work by Ford Maddox Brown\, Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris. \nAmerican Illustration: \nThe Delaware Art Museum was founded to preserve the work of Wilmington-based artist Howard Pyle\, who gained fame as an author and illustrator of books and magazines at the turn of the 20th century. An articulate and demanding teacher\, he communicated this skill to his many students\, teaching them to put themselves “in the picture.” Pyle’s illustrious students include N. C. Wyeth\, Frank Schoonover\, Jessie Willcox Smith\, and other famous illustrators. \nThursday\, January 25\, 2024\n10:00 am – 11:30 am Delaware Art Museum\, Wilmington\, DE 19806\nArrive by 9:45 am \n$25 per person – cost covers tour only.\nReservations required by  January 20\, 2024 (12 midnight)\nSign up online at www.rosevalleymuseum.org; by email at programs@rosevalleymuseum.org; or by phone 484-44-2961 (leave a message \nYou are on your own for lunch.  The DelArt Museum does have a cafe.  Transportation is on your own (carpooling suggested). \nProof of vaccination and masks as determined by DelArt Museum guidelines. \nReservations required by January 20\, 2024: email at programs@rosevalleymuseum.org\, by phone at 484-444-2961 (leave a message) or Click here to register online.
