DESCRIPTION:“Faces of Egypt”\nDocumenting the Discovery of King Tutankamen’s Tomb\nPastels by Howard Freemont Stratton\, Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art\nOpens: Saturday\, September 23\, 2023; Closes Sunday\, December 31\, 2024 \nFree with admission to the Musuem. \nHoward Freemont Stratton\, one of the original stockholders in the community of Rose Valley\, spent time at the Tutankamen tomb site in 1925-1926.  While there he chose to make pastel drawings of the native Egyptian peasant to show their qualities of dignity and self-respect.  the use of pastel as the most suitable medium for interpreting the qualities of objects and atmosphere in the dry region around the Nile allowed the rendering of its colorfulness without crudity.  The signatures on Mr. Stratton’s sketches are made in Egyptian hieroglyphics.  18 pastels will be exhibited. \n\nDonations can be made online or at the door.  Click here to donate online. \n

DESCRIPTION:“Bubblegum Workshop”\nLed by Ryan Berley of Shane Confectionery\, and Jay Schwartz from the Secret Cinema.\nMr. Berley will provide a brief presentation on the history of bubblegum.  Mr. Schwartz will present a 17-minute vintage film\, from his collection\, entitled “The Story of Bubblegum” (1952)\, featuring Philadelphia’s own Fleer Corporation.  And\, of course\, you will get to make your own bubblegum from scratch using base ingredients.  Since 1992\, the Secret Cinema has been the Philadelphia area’s premiere floating repertory cinema series\, bringing hundreds of unique programs to everywhere from nightclubs to coffee houses\, from museums to open fields\, and sometimes even theaters.  Secret Cinema attempts to explore the uncharted territory and the genres that fall between the cracks\, all on real celluloid.\nSunday\, March 24\, 2024\, 4pm\nDonation: $25 per adult; $15 for children 12 and under \nNote location: Grace Rotzel Center at The School in Rose Valley. \nRegister Now!\nReservations (limited seating) \nCall 484-444-2961 (leave a message); Email: programs@rosevalleymuseum.org\nPayment can be made online or at the door.
